Mighty oaks from little acorns grow
This month, Rune Sovndahl CEO and co-founder of Fantastic Services joined the millions of people that blog and shared with the readers of BusinessZone.co.uk the secret behind Fantastic Services success and some advice if you’re thinking of starting your own business.
Rune’s very proud that in the last 12 months Fantastic Services have achieved a turnover of over £25m. It’s great going, for a company that in business terms, started out as a small acorn and is rapidly growing into a mighty oak in the service industry.
He and his business partner Anton have proven that you don’t need to start big to achieve success. As there will always be dirt, there will always be money to be made from cleaning. Proving the old idiom, ‘where there’s muck there’s brass’! You don’t need much to start a business, it’s all about making an idea work. In Rune’s opinion, “Just Do It – it might be a slogan I’ve lifted from Nike, but it applies as much to business as it does to sport.”
They also didn’t waste time looking for wealthy investors, but instead concentrated on what they had and made the best use of it. Rune writes that “The rest all comes down to hard work, commitment, organic growth, and a positive attitude. While funding does have its place – particularly if your idea requires expensive equipment or more man-hours than you can commit yourself – it is not the be-all and end-all or business, and it should never be used as an excuse.”
And his final piece of advice – work happy! “If you don’t enjoy your work, you’re never going to do it well. In business, boredom is nobody’s friend – if you’re happy, your colleagues are enthused and the work environment is fun, productivity will always speak for itself. Energy and creativity feed each other, and bring their own rewards.”
