Once upon a time, the Huracan football team was a normal Sunday league team. Named, after an Argentinian club called Atletico Huracan, things started to get interesting when in 2010, the fans of the real team started to follow them on Facebook. 5,000 Facebook fans later and a visit to Argentina and they decided over a shared passion for football, to start up the Huracan Foundation.
The Huracan Foundation now gives financial support to grassroots charities and initiatives that use football to inspire children and improve education. Their motto is ‘Shared passion. Shared Goals.’ They support teachers working in low-income areas, to set up and run education projects that use football as a tool to transform their communities. Since 2012, they have impacted the lives of 300 children in 6 countries and have been recognised by FIFA, Sky, and the BBC for their efforts. The team now has over 70,000 Facebook followers.
This June, the Huracan team takes on a huge challenge. As Euro 2016 kicks off in France, 14 players from Huracan FC London are raising money for the Huracan Foundation by riding from London to Marseille on folding Brompton Bikes! They need to get to Marseille in time for England’s opening game. Their goal is to raise over £14,000, in order to support 5 innovative and sustainable projects around the world over the next 2 years. And to achieve this they need your help!
They’re asking for contributions and you can help by heading here. From £10, which will buy a bag of footballs for one school, to £3,000 which could support a project for the first two years, no donation is too big or too small. Every penny helps!
Fantastic Services have already gotten on board and made our own donation to such a worthy cause. As ever, we believe that giving to charity is a great way to give something back and build relationships, and a better future for people all around the world.
