Heat makes the wax stick to the wall surface, and it is the same thing that will help remove it. For this method, you will need the following items:

  • Plastic knife or butter knife
  • A hairdryer
  • Clean rags
  • White vinegar

While this method is meant for painted walls, it should work just as well for wallpapered ones. Mind you, be very careful not to use too much heat, because you might damage the paint. Heat is a fine way to remove paint from a wall when you want to.

  1. Wait for the wax to harden.
  2. Scrape off as much of it as you can while applying gentle pressure.
  3. Set your hairdryer at medium heat and aim at the wax stain.
  4. Keep heating up the wax until it begins to melt.
  5. With your dry rag, remove the wax as it melts.
  6. Mix one part white vinegar in three parts water.
  7. Clean the wall of any wax residue.
  8. Dry the wall with a dry rag.

The heat method can also be applied using an iron instead of a hairdryer, but it’s not suitable for wallpaper.

  1. Gently scrape off as much candle wax as you can with your butter knife.
  2. Set the iron to a medium setting.
  3. Place a paper towel over the wax stain.
  4. Place the warm iron over the stain. The wax will stick to the paper.
  5. As soon as one piece of paper absorbs some wax, change it with a fresh one.
  6. Repeat until the wax is gone.
  7. Clean any wax residue with your vinegar and water solution.
